About this product
The Stanley 220 is a compact block plane with a grey iron body, designed for one-handed use. Both the depth of cut and blade alignment are adjustable, allowing consistent, precise results. Block planes cut end grain effectively because the blade is bedded at a lower angle with the bevel facing upwards, letting it slice through fibres efficiently, often with the plane held at up to 45° to the direction of travel. This makes the 220 useful for paring end grain, chamfering square edges, cleaning up glue lines, and fine-tuning joinery to tight tolerances. It has a 40mm cutter width and a length of around 180mm, with a cast-iron base featuring precision-ground sides and bottom, plus a finger-rest for added comfort and control. The iron needs honing before use.
