Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal data PriceCompass collects, the basis on which it is processed, how long it is retained, and the rights available to you. PriceCompass is a price comparison service operated from the United Kingdom. The service is designed to require as little personal data as possible, and this notice sets out precisely what it holds.

Cookies and tracking

PriceCompass sets no cookies. The site uses no analytics software, no advertising tags and no tracking pixels, and stores nothing in your browser. As no information is stored on or read from your device, no consent is required and no consent banner is presented.

Information we collect

Price alerts. When you request a price alert we record the email address you provide, the product concerned, an optional target price, and a randomly generated token used to authenticate the links in the emails we send. We do not collect a name, create an account, or set a password. This data is processed solely to provide the alerts you have requested, on the legal basis of consent. No alert is sent until you confirm your request using the link in the initial email.

Outbound link activity. We record the number of visits made to retailers through our links, in order to understand which comparisons are useful. Each record contains the product and retailer concerned, the time, and the referring page. It contains no IP address, no device or browser identifier, and no other information capable of identifying an individual. These records cannot be linked to you.

Server logs. Our web server records incoming requests, including IP address, browser user-agent string and the page requested. This is a standard operational measure: it enables us to distinguish genuine visitors from the automated crawlers that account for the majority of requests, to maintain security, and to diagnose faults. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure and functioning service. Logs are retained for no longer than 30 days and are then deleted automatically.

What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent or otherwise disclose your email address for any third party’s own purposes.
• We do not send marketing. The only messages we send are the price alerts you have requested and the email confirming that request.
• We do not build profiles of individuals, and we do not track visitors across other websites.
• We do not request names, postal addresses, telephone numbers or payment details. No payment is ever taken through this site.

Retention

A price alert is retained until you unsubscribe. Every alert email contains a one-click unsubscribe link; no account, reply or explanation is required. Following unsubscription the record is retained only to ensure that your request is honoured and that you are not re-subscribed. You may request its complete deletion at any time.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it rectified or erased, and to object to its processing. Given the limited data held, such requests are generally straightforward and are usually satisfied promptly. Requests may be submitted through our contact form.

Complaints

If you are dissatisfied with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK supervisory authority for data protection, at ico.org.uk.
