The Dormer E500 is a coarse metric taper tap made from high-speed steel, size M3.5 with a 0.6mm pitch and 6H tolerance to ISO 529. Its straight flute design allows for effective chip removal, giving smooth, accurate threading with minimal effort, and it is suitable for steel, stainless steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metals.
Straight flute taps of this kind can be used by hand or in a machine and are versatile enough for tapping through or blind holes. For blind holes, they are normally used as part of a three-tap set comprising taper (first), second (intermediate) and bottoming (plug) taps.
